Floor care at the commercial level requires more than a mop and a bucket. Floor Care
Allcare operates dedicated floor care crews. They are not the same crews doing janitorial work in the same building. Floor equipment — walk-behind scrubbers, ride-on scrubbers, and high-speed scrubbing machines, — is not shared with general cleaning teams.
All floor care work follows NFSI standards. Wet floor signage is mandatory during and after any floor work. Slip-and-fall incidents related to floor care are a facility liability. Allcare’s safety protocols are not negotiable.
Work is scheduled after hours. Most commercial floor care is incompatible with occupied spaces — not just because of disruption, but because wet floors present a safety risk and the work requires moving equipment through spaces that must be clear. Your account manager will coordinate timing with your operations team.

VCT Strip and Wax
Vinyl composite tile (VCT) is one of the most common commercial floor surfaces in GTA facilities — warehouse offices, school corridors, healthcare settings, retail back-of-house, and institutional buildings. VCT requires a protective finish to maintain its appearance and protect the tile from below-surface wear.
VCT Strip & Wax
Over time, that finish accumulates layers. Old wax yellows, traps grit, and loses its reflective quality. When that happens, stripping and rewaxing is the correct approach.
The strip process: A chemical stripper is applied to the VCT surface and allowed to dwell. The stripper breaks down the old wax layers. Allcare uses a floor machine to mechanically agitate and lift the old finish. The floor is then thoroughly rinsed, neutralized and allowed to dry before new product is applied.
The wax application: Finish coats are applied in multiple thin layers, allowing each coat to dry before the next is applied. Thin-coat application produces a harder, more durable finish than a single heavy coat. Allcare’s floor crews apply a minimum of three to five finish coats depending on the facility type and foot traffic load.
When to strip and wax: Most VCT commercial floors benefit from a full strip-and-wax cycle one to two times per year. High-traffic areas may require more frequent attention. Between full cycles, buffing and recoating extends the life of the finish.
Tile and Grout Cleaning
Ceramic and porcelain tile is durable but grout is not. Grout lines are porous. They absorb oils, food residue, mop water contamination, and biological material. Standard mopping distributes dirty water into grout lines rather than removing what is already there.
Grout Cleaning
Allcare’s tile and grout cleaning uses:
- Steam cleaning for heavy grout soiling and sanitization requirements (medical environments, food-adjacent spaces)
- Grout-specific cleaning machines with rotating brush heads that apply cleaning agent directly into the grout channel
- Targeted chemical agents matched to the soil type and grout colour
After cleaning, grout sealing is recommended for high-traffic or high-moisture areas. Sealed grout resists future absorption and is significantly easier to maintain.
Grout cleaning is scheduled after hours and requires a drying period before the area is opened to foot traffic. Your account manager will confirm timing with your facility team.
Polished Concrete
Polished Concrete Maintenance
Polished concrete has become a standard finish in GTA commercial, retail, and industrial facilities. It is durable and lower-maintenance than coated floors, but it is not maintenance-free. Polished concrete requires:
- Regular dust mopping to prevent grit from scratching the polished surface
- Periodic wet cleaning with a pH-balanced cleaner specifically formulated for polished concrete
Using alkaline or acidic cleaners on polished concrete etches the surface over time. The correct pH range for polished concrete maintenance is near-neutral (pH 7 to 9). Allcare’s floor crews use products within the appropriate pH range and do not substitute general-purpose floor cleaners.
