Green cleaning means different things to different companies. For some vendors, it means swapping a plant-based hand soap into the program and printing “eco-friendly” on a brochure. For an ESG-driven buyer, a sustainability committee, or a LEED building manager, that distinction matters.
Allcare’s green cleaning services is built on the Rochester Midland Canada Enviro Care product line: a named, certifiable system with documented third-party verification. Every chemical in the program carries either EcoLogo certification (third party, established 1988), Green Seal certification (established 1989), or both. Both certifications require independent testing. Neither is self-declared.
The program has been in operation since 2008, when Allcare received the Franken LeDrew Green Cleaning Certification on June 8 of that year.
What Makes a Green Cleaning Program Credible
There is a meaningful difference between a cleaning vendor who claims green practices and one who can document them.
Cleaning Programm
- Eco-friendly: is marketing language. It does not appear on a Safety Data Sheet. It is not verifiable by an auditor. It does not satisfy a LEED O+M credit requirement.
- EcoLogo: is a certification administered by Environment and Climate Change Canada. To carry the EcoLogo mark, a product must meet published environmental and health performance criteria, verified by an independent third party. The mark can be revoked.
- Green Seal: is an independent non-profit certification programme. Green Seal's GS-37 standard applies to commercial cleaning products. Meeting it requires laboratory testing and third-party review. Green Seal certification is renewed on an ongoing basis.
The Rochester Midland Canada Enviro Care line carries both. Allcare uses this line exclusively in the green cleaning program. When a sustainability director asks for documentation, Allcare can provide product data sheets, Safety Data Sheets, and certification references: not a conversation about intentions.
The Colour-Coded System Behind the Program
The Enviro Care program operates on a colour-coded microfibre and chemical system. Red cloths and products for glass. Blue for disinfecting. Yellow for general surfaces. Green for washrooms.
This is not just a sustainable product swap. It is a cross-contamination control system. The colour-coding is how you ensure that the product and cloth used on a washroom fixture never contact a kitchen surface, a food-adjacent counter, or a cleanroom worktable.
For pharmaceutical facilities, food manufacturing clients, and medical offices, this protocol is a hygiene standard as much as a sustainability one.
Flexible Coverage
HEPA Filtration and Equipment Standards
Green cleaning is about more than what goes into a spray bottle. Allcare’s green programme includes HEPA filtration vacuums on all janitorial accounts. Standard vacuums recirculate fine particles: allergens, construction dust, biological particulate: back into the air. HEPA units capture 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns.
For LEED O+M projects pursuing Indoor Environmental Quality credits, using HEPA filtration as part of the cleaning program is a relevant program component. Allcare’s equipment standard supports this without requiring a separate upgrade.

Certified Green Cleaning for LEED-Supported Facilities
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority operates one of the few LEED Platinum-certified office facilities in the GTA. Allcare holds the cleaning contract. Every product introduced to the building passes green certification review, and Allcare’s service documentation supports the client’s ongoing LEED reporting.

Pharmaceutical and laboratory facilities
Green cleaning in these environments requires understanding which certified products are compatible with GMP requirements and client SOPs. - What is the difference between "eco-friendly" and certified green cleaning?
“Eco-friendly” is an unregulated language: any company can use it. EcoLogo and Green Seal are third-party certifications that require independent testing and ongoing compliance. Only products that have passed that process can carry those marks.
- Can your green program support LEED certification for our building?
Yes. Allcare can provide product data sheets, SDS documentation, and service logs formatted for LEED O+M credit documentation. The specific credits that apply depend on your certification path.
- Are all of your products green certified?
Allcare’s green program uses the Rochester Midland Canada Enviro Care line, which carries EcoLogo and Green Seal certification. For facility types with specialty requirements: pharmaceutical, food manufacturing: products are selected in coordination with the client’s specific protocol.
- Does green cleaning cost more than standard commercial cleaning?
The Enviro Care program is Allcare’s standard product line, not a premium add-on. Green cleaning is part of the program at no separate cost tier. The walkthrough and scope determine pricing, not product selection.
- What documentation can you provide for our sustainability report?
